This shoot was a collaboration with an incredible fine art artist and an even better friend of mine, Jeremiah Kuch (www.jeremiahkuch.com). We'd been talking for almost a year about working together on a project, but since our media is so different it was hard to find the perfect one. Eventually we decided on projecting his artwork onto a white wall and using it to create an environment for a model to interact with. The idea evolved into strange characters with alien, bird, fish, and camera heads. The whole shoot was done in camera live using the projector as a second monitor for Jeremiah's laptop. He had saved each character and all of their components on separate layers so that they could be moved live as the model moved. Daniel Meigs was also attached to the laptop on a Wacom tablet masking out the background as the model moved to provide clean light on the face.

Creative styling by Samantha Roe brought the model, Laurenne N. (AMAX), into the scene and Lorena Lopez topped it off with incredible hair and make up.

This was definitely a very extreme, risky shoot. It pushed me out of my comfort zone..using low light that wasn't strobes took a while to be ok with. In the end I learned a lot and got a very unique piece for my book. Thanks team!

I contacted AMAX in Nashville, TN a while back and told them I'd like to test with their models. I've never worked with professional models, hair/make-up, or stylists before so I sent the email with a prayer assuming I'd get a courtesy "no thanks" back. Cherylann answered my email with a phone call. She wanted to hear some of my ideas. So we talked for a while and she spoke with me candidly about how she could tell that I had never worked with a team before. Luckily for me she liked the composition and feel to my other photographs and that peaked her interest about what I could do if I was surrounded by a good team. We started planning out some different shoots for months later and these are some of the results. The first shoot was in studio on a seamless and the second is on location at Percy Priest Lake.

Dance has always been an irreplaceable form of self-expression for me but recently contemporary dance has grown my love for visual arts. Besides doing headshots of dancers from Found Movement Group I’ve started making dance films of different pieces from our last performance “I Saw You Tomorrow”. I met Stacie Flood-Popp (Director of FMG and choreographer) through VDT and eventually joined her professional dance company. Some of the pieces in the show just needed to be captured and we’ve begun the process with two different duets; “Goodbye, My Lover” and “Woman’s Work”. This shot is a still from the “Woman’s Work” dance film. I finished a rough cut tonight and hope to have a full length version out by the end of next week. Stay tuned.

Last week I traveled to Nashville to perform in a show with my dance company Found Movement Group. During the week of rehearsals I made some new friends and ended up shooting Andre Fuentes (photos soon). We had tons of fun at Thomas Petillo's studio in East Nashville and the shots turned out great. Anyway, that shoot lead to another shoot of Travis Cooper - an incredible dancer and member of Found Movement Group. Travis and I started shooting around 2pm and wrapped his photo shoot at 8pm only to move downtown Nashville to film a dance film w/ Stacie Flood-Popp (Found Director) and Sarah Lytle (Company Member). We didn't finish until 3am. Here are some shots of that afternoon with stills and videos of the evening shoot soon to come!

Brian Lee is an incredible musician living in Nashville. He works construction during the day and makes soul searching music at night in his basement. Jordan Wankel and Ryan Young are "His Orchestra". We did this shoot for their second album "Let Yourself be Happy" and I couldn't be more pleased. We shot at night in east Nashville over at Thomas Petillo's studio. We played music and drank coffee all night just goofing around with the equipment that we had. The rainbow shot was inspired by Brian's insane personality and his unicorn shirt. I should post some outtakes soon. They might be better (or at least funnier) than these shots.

My first stop animation

Jeremiah and I were married in a theatre this past December. Since we had such an incredible space and so many talented friends/family we decided to use those resources to tell our story at our wedding. Using poetry, dance, music, and videos we were able to make our dream come true. This was a video that we made months before the wedding that was played right before our wedding party came out. It was sort of a cute way to transition into the actual ceremony. Since it was my first attempt at stop animation it's very simple... black and white, on white, with hot lights. More to come (hopefully) so enjoy!

Calen had been working as a stable boy in Franklin part-time to earn some money while he applied for jobs in Nashville. His day started around 6am and ended long after the sun went down. One morning I got up with him while it was still dark and joined him for a few hours while he fed the horses and got things started for the day. Here are some of the shots.

While avoiding work on the weekend I set out to find members of the Marion community to photograph. I was accompanied by Christopher Wonsetler on Friday and the beautiful Katherine Collins on Saturday. We found teenage dudes skating around the town. This is them standing still, for once.
